my bad, there was a guy who was supposed to lift in the 83's i think from saudi arabia who didn't make weight then kicked up a stick about it not being fair or something and they let him lift in the 93's. He wasn't able to compete for a medal they just let him lift

What a tool that bloke is. Go to 3 lift Worlds and take a token squat and deadlift for a bench record and then test positive?!

Yeah- but not an attractive destination, either.. Last worlds there was famous as a rip off. Hotel room prices inflated by 500%. Johansberg not famous for tourism, but famous for mugging, robbery, murder. Oh well...

Lousish told Jono it's unlikely to be Africa either with problems with the federation or something?

We may have had something to do with some of the rumours, we posted this article a while back trying to drum up some support for a bid! There is plenty of grass roots support for a world championship, but little in the way of sponsorship or actual funding. It's alarmingly easy to rack up several hundred thousand dollars in upfront costs by the time you add together hotel bookings, venue hire, banquet bookings, and that's before you have any equipment, staff, advertising, etc. At this stage an IPF World's in Aus is more dream than reality, however as the sport grows so too do our chances. Also worth noting WPC World's are booked for Sydney in 2014, should give an idea of the potential for us to host a major international powerlifting event, although I'm not too sure how the two compare in size, scope, etc.

From what i understand the IPF worlds are the biggest of the lot by a fair bit. Will still be interesting to see how they go though
