Looking at the 83s and weeping uncontrollably. Do I even lift? Worry about the local competition first I say. Yes, baby steps. Get to the top of Aus, and help raise the standard for other lifters then you can worry about the Russians.

yes- but I think people need to aim high. Aussies can beat Russians. Guys like you and Hozjan certainly can. I just mean that the rest of us need to get to your level first and then go after the Russians. Someone like me with a 600 total could look at the Russians and weep, or I could focus on 650, then 700, then 750 and in time you end up looking and the Russians and thinking "I can take them." The good part is that the higher the standard locally the more everyone will expect out of all lifters and I believe that people tend to rise to meet a high standard.

I guess my point is that Aussies should be aiming to beat Russians. Aim high and train hard.

I'ts on Julz. I guess my point is that Aussies should be aiming to beat Russians. Aim high and train hard. Yes I agree, we definitely should be aiming to beat the Russians. There's nothing to stop us - you and Hozjan and a few others are already there. Come to think of it our best are competitive with those qualifying totals. Russia just has more depth.

That's insane. And I hear their top lifters do it full time.
Where can we find the dates/results of their comps? I can't find much through google or the IPF website.

I agree with SP 100% Aim real high! Still set your short term goals if you want but don't let them obscure the view of the big ass total you're going to get to

Apparently Uncle Boris says even losers can get a Master of Sports total so that's what I want to get when I grow up.

I love and hate Uncle Boris equally.
If I ever meet him I will shake his hand then kick him in the balls.
