I have used: Do-win rogues Adidas ironwork II Adidas powerperfect Polish weightlifters Nike Romaleo 2 Metal shoe "M" weightlifting shoe Chuck Taylor Wrestling shoe.
As far as weightlifting shoes go, I found the nikes the best by far, followed by do-win rogue then "m" weightlifting shoe. I use flats now- metal- best flat soled shoe by miles IMO.
What do others think?

Used Do wins and Nike Rom.
Nike wins hands down, I squat in them.

I tried some UGE weightlifting shoes but squatting with a heal after squatting barefoot for so long just didn't work for me. now i use the UGE's for benching so its easier to keep my heels down and squat in my chucks. What was the Metal shoe like?

Metal is dead flat with no give in the sole.

I also squat in the metal flats. I used to squat in heals (do wins), but i am now a conveted flat sole squatter. The metals are incredible. Light as a feather, but your feet feel solid in the squat. If you are moving to a flat sole squat, I would highly recomend.

I squatted barefoot for about 2 years, then found Metals - loved em, instantly felt much more stable and it showed throw on the squat.
I gave about 10 weeks (not that long i know) squatting in do-wins, i didn't mind them, but it didn't feel as stable. So i switched back to what works - Metals
Like webby, the do-wins are now used when i bench only

Steve, I'd be interested to hear what led you to switch from heels to flats. I remember reading you talk about going to worlds some years ago and seeing all the top lifters wearing heels.
I wear Adidas Ironwork II. I've tried switching to flats (chucks) and found I got lots of hip flexor soreness. My weights also went down so I switched back. FWIW I'm very quad dominant, so I think this has something to do with my preference for heels. The adidas were better for stability but maybe thats just because I wasn't trying a decent flat shoe. That said, plenty of much strong people have squatted big weights in chucks.

GP- Yeah- that's true. Most elite powerlifters wear something with a heel- that's especially true of the Europeans- like Russians, Ukrainians, Poles, swedes etc. Weightlifting shoes are the norm. Adidas ironwork II are damn fine shoes. My only issue was that they were fairly narrow. I believe the heel tends to load things up a little forward, which gets quad involvement and many find it makes it easier to stay upright and get deeper. There are a couple of things behind that. One thing is mobility- particularly tight hamstrings and also ankle mobility. If your heel comes up when you squat barefoot- that's a factor for you. The other thing is it changes the angles slightly.
I switched to flats and found I was more stable and felt a little more solid with the slight shift backward. With heels I occasionally had balance issues. These disappeared with flats. My physio also tells me that if you have a pelvic tilt then heels increase the tilt and that can create a bit or torque in the lower back. That's not the case and as I said most people will go better in heels.

Thanks for the input. Funny that mobility in terms of hitting depth is the least of my issues. If anything I need to cut my squats shallower. Interesting about pelvic tilt. I hadn't thought of it that way. I have pronounced anterior pelvic tilt with classic tight hip flexors/weak glutes and tendency to hyperextend the back in the squat. Something for me to think about.

Thanks for explaining that SP, I have never been good at being able to articulate that, but how it works for you is how it works for me. because I squat in flats and a widish stance, I try at least 1 session a week to squat in heels, with a narrow stance, to keep engaging the quads, ie Tuesdays for me will be front squats and I squat in heels. Also mixes it up for variety.

I used to squat in deadlift slippers when I had a narrower stance Switched to chucks for more ankle support with my wider stance (heels have gone from ~60cm to ~100cm apart) Tried 3 weightlifting shoes (do win, uge and Nike) and never felt comfortable in any Was wearing the uge to bench but have switched to lifting my heels so use deadlift slippers (when I'm not injured lol)

Cool! Most people that try them like them. I first saw them in 2007 at the IPF worlds- but now they are fairly common. I still wear my nikes for safetybar squat, front squat, bench.

I've been resisting the urge to buy the Nike for the last few days since I saw this thread lol
Perhaps I'll make it a gift to myself when I reach the Useless (A) Grade.
Squatting in Do-Wins atm.
