Who's competing at PA Raw Nats and what are your goals?
I'm competing in the wheelchair athlete division on Sunday and hoping to beat Scotty so that he and Rae will buy me beer. Honestly I'll be happy with a new comp PB, maybe 185 will be nice.

I have had some set backs- which has meant I've had to take time off to sort some injuries. 4 weeks ago I was charging into 2013. Then back strain then hip strain. It's ruined my run into the raw nats but I'm now back training and rebuilding. I'm not sure if i will lift- but I will definitely be there.

sorry to hear that mate, was looking forward to seeing you compete in the invitational. you never know. I had completely written things off and dragged my sorry ass to MTS on saturday for a 'whatever happens' session after a break from training and went ok. I just loaded up 270 and thought I'll try for a couple of reps to get the body used to weights again, but ended up doing 270x6@9rpe- which surprised me.

Aiming to match my old total before injuries 1.5 years ago. 465 a few months ago, want 485 at Raw Nat. Training cycle was interrupted for almost 3 weeks with irritated SI joints, but that's over now thankfully.

Training cycle was interrupted for almost 3 weeks with irritated SI joints, but that's over now thankfully. maybe we need an injury/rehab thread. What have you been doing for the SI irritation? Its a common complaint for powerlifters. I have heard a few different ideas for treatment myself. I know Mike T advocates lunges to improve SI issues. My physio reckons for me its the facit joints creating problems when I squat uneven or with a slight twist. So for me- I think it might start with a hip issue that becomes an SI issue. I find hip flexor stretches and hammy stretches help quite a lot.

Yeah I reckon an injury / rehab thread would be good. For me the SI joints got irritated after a deadlift session (85~90% for triples) and might have some links to my previous right hip / glute injury which was caused by irritated nerves around the facit joints (had cortisone injected there and another place). Got so bad that the next week, I could not even squat an empty bar (well I did try, and then I couldn't straighten up for 15 mins). What I did for the SI joint issue: - Icing the SI joints twice every night, 15 mins each time. - Getting the chiro (he's very good with ART - Active Release Technique) to set my hips in the correct positions - Daily hip flexor, hammy and quad stretches (I take regular breaks at work to stretch them out), plus foam rolling the quads and low back after every lifting session. For me the quad work helps the most. I have / had very tight quads, and they pull on the hip flexors making them tighter than usual. - Magnificent Mobility hip drills before every lifting and GPP session (for me that's almost every day) I do find that lunges - specifically backward lunges that also dynamically stretch out the hip flexors - work brilliantly with my SI joint issue. In MM, the backward lunges are done with a horizontal twist to the side. Side lunges are also good. I do them while turning & moving continuously down the corridor or oval. - www.ironedge.com.au/store/posture-curve.html - this baby gives my tight back relief through out the day (I have it between me and the chair) and forces me to sit up correctly. Usually my hips are stupidly tight after a work day, but now it's not so bad. Took me about 2 weeks before I can squat normally again.
