I've been tossing about the idea of going up a weight class for a fair while. After worlds i very quickly decided against it because, well because the 93's were absolute beast. Since then though i've found that I'm putting on weight quickly and have started thinking about it again.
From the guys who have been at the borderline between classes how much strength did you gain with say a 10kg weight increase.
If i went to the 93's to place the same world wide as i did in the 83's i'd need to total 725 but to medal would be about 750+ where as to medal this year in the 83's is 707kg. I'm training at about 88kg ATM.
I guess my question is would you guys recommend staying disciplined food wise and staying at 83 sacrifising a small amount of strength gains or just go for it and have a crack at getting heavy and strong. Or stay at 88-89 and get better at the water cut?

I'd say just pick a weight you feel your best at and stay around there. The russians don't worry about cutting weight for classes.

Stick around in 83s a little bit longer and see if you can get that 700 first. Then go dominate the 93s.

I'm not so sure about that mate, there weren't any russians competing at the lower end of a weight class they were all within about 3-5% of their weight class limit. Thats kind of my thoughts at them moment Julz but if it takes longer then i'm hoping for then i don't want to be wasting time either

My thoughts are that it will probably take longer than you hope. You've made unbelievable progress but at some stage that is going to slow down and you constantly have to work harder and smarter to make progress. Sometimes that progress isn't easily measurable. I think you should hang around and achieve it but if you decide to move to the 93s then commit completely to that and don't wonder about might have beens.

sound advice mate! Back in my footy days this was pretty much the limit to how heavy i could get so i might find that it's very easy to maintain this weight yet. I might keep up the food for a bit and see what happens and see how easy it is to lose for my next comp. Would definitely need to learn to bench if i went up a class too.

On a serious note, reaching your full potential as a 93 will take some time. If you're sitting as a leanish 87-88 now you will want to add something around around 7-8kgs of lean mass to have the same potential in the 93s. I think there's still more to achieve as an 83 and with Lucas, Amir, and maybe Barham when he gets back in the game, you will be in one of the most fiercely competitive weight divisions in the fed I think.

Baxter reckons Amir should be a 105. Webby and Barham should go to 93s and Lucas back to bodybuilding. Dreams.

you're not wrong there Ben! what would you say would be the heaviest i could sit at safely in the 83's? I've cut from 87 fairly easily in a week but haven't gone any heavier

Barham should definitely be a 93 but he doesn't like getting fat. Col is definitely tall enough for the 93s or even 105s but he doesn't look like he packs on mass easy (correct me if I'm wrong Col). Lucas no longer looks like a bodybuilder, a fact that I remind him of often. He doesn't like being told he has titties now.
